Review: Endura‘s MT500 Plus Overshoes
Through mud and wet, overshoes are a must and the MT500 Plus get the job done right.
After a few winter rides with wet and cold feet, I knew I needed to find a solution. Seeing as I ride flat pedals, Endura’s MT500 Plus Overshoes, with their open sole, struck me as the way to keep my shoes dry and feet warm. As soon as they arrived, I went for a ride…
First Impressions
At first glance, the overshoes look very robust. The open rubber sole, designed for flat pedals, let riders make shoe-pedal contact with the soles of their choice. My first impressions were positive and the MT500 Plus Overshoes were well thought through.
They are well constructed.
The open sole works great on flat pedals.
Fit
When I first pulled them over my shoes, I was surprised by how much effort it took. I wear Five Tens in an EU size 37 and I ordered the S/M version, which is recommended for 37-39. After pulling them over, they fit very snugly, put didn’t cause any circulation problems and overall, were comfortable to wear. However, for those who wear an EU 38 or 39, I would recommend going up a size.
They fit tight and well.
The overshoes were also very comfortable.
Time to ride
With both overshoes on, I hit the trail. Temperatures hovered around 0° C while I rode through every puddle and mud hole I could find for over 2 hours. The entire time, my shoes stayed dry and my feet were kept warm. The close fit didn’t affect the ride at all. Not once did it catch up on my pedals, make contact with my cranks or influence my bike handling.
The entire time, my shoes stayed dry and my feet were kept warm.
A few of the super muddy steep climbs required me to get off my bike and push. I sank into the mud often and even then, the MT500 Plus Overshoes didn’t let in any moisture. The high cuff also kept mud and dirt from seeping as well.
Back home
When I got home, my feet were warm and dry. My shoes were also as clean as when I pulled on the overshoes. Taking them off was easy, and rinsing them off after was a simple affair. They also dried in no time and were ready for my ride the next day.
Mud and water never stood a chance.
My shoes stayed super clean.
Summary
Pulling the MT500 Plus Overshoes on may have been a little difficult, but they performed as promised. My feet and shoes stayed dry the entire ride. I am super happy about not having cold and wet feet while anymore. From now on, a winter ride will always include my MT500 Plus Overshoes.
