How often have we heard that statement? Admittedly, not everyone can ditch the car or a motorized two-wheeler. If your workplace is far away and poorly connected by public transport, you hardly have a choice. For a lot of people, however, the bicycle would be a much better alternative: It's cheaper, more climate-friendly, healthier, less stressful, and in many cases even faster than a car. For instance, in Aachen, they recently had to demolish a highway bridge due to its age, and it's currently being rebuilt. This has cut off the main traffic artery. You can probably imagine what's been happening on the streets in Aachen's outskirts since then. At the same time, there's progress with the infrastructure: Safe bike paths, long-distance cycling routes, and bicycle streets where bikes have priority over cars are becoming more common. Commendable!

Long story short:
A city bike is a must. Of course, not just any bike, that's clear. It needs to come with all the features you need for commuting to work and for everyday rides: Fenders for when it rains, a rack for work gear or shopping, permanent lighting without the hassle of recharging batteries, and a stand in case there's no proper parking available. Of course, the city speedster needs to be low maintenance, because if you're riding a lot, you don't want a bike that needs constant care.
Tour-ready and yet sporty!
Our Vortrieb Modell 1.2 demonstrates that a “full package” city bike doesn’t need to look old-fashioned and sluggish like many touring bikes: The closely fitting, high-quality aluminum fenders from Hebie are hardly noticeable and feature an integrated rack system that is as inconspicuous as possible and with a 16kg maximum load capacity, is more than sufficient for most uses. The days of the impractical spring clip are gone - your luggage will, of course, be in a secure, tidy, and rainproof bag. The lighting, naturally powered by an integrated Shimano hub dynamo in the front wheel, is also integrated into the fenders and therefore doesn’t need to be unsightly attached to the frame and fork. For safety in traffic and on forest paths, our city bike is equipped with powerful hydraulic disc brakes from Shimano, which, unlike traditional rim brakes, deliver nearly 100% of their power even in wet conditions and additionally don’t wear down the aluminum rims.

Low-maintenance and easy to handle
To keep maintenance to a minimum, we opted for a Shimano Alfine hub gear system with 8 speeds, which as a gear hub doesn't require any external mechanisms, making it significantly less prone to issues and more maintenance-friendly than a traditional chain gear system. Basically, all you need to do is oil the chain – that’s almost all there is in terms of regular maintenance. And so the chain doesn’t leave oil on your pants, the Shimano Alfine crank is equipped with a trouser protection ring. Thus, we’ve managed to create a city bike that incorporates all features of a trekking bike without looking unathletic.

Full steam ahead, but comfortably please!
The riding characteristics are emphasized by the sporty-simple appearance: The Vortrieb Modell 1.2 is efficient and lively. The light and stiff aluminum frame doesn’t waste any energy and the Schwalbe Delta Cruiser tires roll quickly and quietly, yet their 37mm width provides the necessary comfort for cobblestones and bumpy forest paths. Forgot to shift to a lighter gear at the red light? No problem: The Shimano Alfine hub gear can shift even when standing, without needing to pedal. In designing the frame, we paid great attention to creating a geometry that supports sporty-active riding, but without being stressful and uncomfortable, since the riding position is relatively upright, similar to that of a touring bike. The slightly rearward-angled handlebars and ergonomic grips support a neck-friendly position without tension.

Models for men and women, or: for short or tall riders
The top tube slopes backwards, making it easier to get on and off the bike. Alongside the men’s model, we of course also have a women’s model available, which comes with a significantly lower top tube. However, there's no reason for taller women not to ride the men’s model as well. And why shouldn’t a shorter man ride the women’s model if it makes it easier for him to swing his legs over? Enough with the stereotypes and equal rights for everyone! To ensure all types of riders find their correct size, we offer a total of 6 frame sizes from XS to XXL.
