Technology:
AirmapWith Airmap, 7mesh introduces a high-performance alternative to PFAS-based membranes. PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) is a generic term for fluorinated chemicals, which also include e.g. PTFE, PFC and PFOA. PFAS have many advantages such as water-repellent properties, heat and pressure resistance. That is why they are attractive for industrially manufactured products and for functional clothing. But PFAS are also called " forever chemicals" because they are not biodegradable or only biodegradable within incalculable periods of thousands of years. Thus, they not only pollute the environment, but also get back into the human body via food and drinking water, with potentially serious health consequences.
Airmap, on the other hand, is PFAS-free. It is a single-layer polyurethane membrane that is elastic and robust, but has limited breathability. To increase breathability, it is combined with air-permeable, water-repellent materials that - unlike completely waterproof materials - allow good ventilation. This is also where the name " Airmap" comes from. Airmap can be processed in one or more layers on top of each other. It provides controlled air exchange and ultimately more comfort in clothing designed for changing weather conditions.
