Technology:

Maxtal
Made exclusively for Mavic, this lightweight and strong aluminium alloy offers a higher strength-to-weight ratio than standard 6106 aluminium. Maxtal rims are 30% stiffer and weigh less than other aluminium rims.

Black Shield Treatment
This innovative surface treatment of MTB rims makes them twice more resistant to stone impacts and scratches.

SUP
SUP means Soudé Usiné Process and creates a much more stable and smoother rim joint. The rim joint is welded and then milled over to achieve an even braking surface. SUP prevents any brake judder and facilitates spoking and centring of the wheel.

Infinity Hub Design
Infinity hubs from Mavic allow contactless lacing, which prevents noise development under load. At the same time, this design is lighter, stiffer and easier to maintain. Often you only need one spoke length per wheel set, so that an optimal spare parts supply is given.

QRM Auto
QRM Auto stands for Qualité de Roulements Mavic Auto, and is the latest bearing innovation from Mavic. These cartridge bearings with C3 internal clearance are double sealed. Their bearing clearance is automatically adjusted to guarantee smooth running without any play at all times.

Instant Drive 360
The Instant Drive 360 freehub system is super light and ensures a fast power connection with an engagement angle of only 9° (road) or 15° (MTB). A large, non-contact rubber seal reduces friction.

Fore Tapeless Tubeless
Instead of drilling a conventional rim hole, the inner rim base is pressed inwards in one operation and provided with a thread into which the nipples are screwed directly. The outer rim base remains intact. This results in a stiffer and stronger wheel that means rim tape can be omitted, which also translates to weight savings.

The wheels seem well made and make a really good impression out of the box. The tubeless tyre installation is really easy thanks to the holeless rim bed, although it's a bit of struggle to get the tyres on the rim (you need a bit of force and patience).

The main disappointment is that the weight declared by Mavic is around 140gr less than the one measured on the scale. Mavic declares 1695gr when the real one (without valves) is 1833gr. This isn't absolutely a bike-components fault, but it could be a nice implementation to add the real weight in the description for the future.

For now I've only installed the wheels on the bike but I've yet to try them. Coming from 19mm inner width and 2.1kg wheels this is a huge upgrade in terms of tyre profile on the rim (and I hope to feel it when riding). In the future I'll certainly upgrade the ratchet system with the 40t one.
For the price I think it's a really nice set of wheels, and it'll be difficult to find something better at this price point.
