The essence of 30 years of racing experience: the Assegai folding tyre by Maxxis

Two years of development time, the essence of 30 years of racing experience and the expert knowledge of 50 years of tyre production have gone into Maxxis Assegai, the signature tyre from Greg Minnaar.

" My idea was to design a tyre around some of Maxxis' iconic tread patterns. I started in the centre by combining the Minion DHF and the Minion DHR II. The reason for this was that the surface of the DHF rolls well and maintains grip superbly on hardpack, in greasy turns and on wet roots and rocks. The DHR II added faster rolling speed and more aggressive braking.
Next, I worked on the 'extra' lug to give you more support when leaning the bike over so that there is a consistent feeling all the way onto the side lugs. And that is how we move on to talk about my all-time favourite tyre - the HighRoller. Maxxis engineers and I redesigned the HighRoller side lugs so that they had pretty much the same characteristics as the original did. But with the support provided by the extra lug, you have the ultimate wingman when cutting hard through flat turns.
In the end I took the lug height from the Shorty. The lugs are well-supported, which enables the raised tread to easily bite into forest soil and dry, dusty ground."
Greg Minnaar

Technology:

3C MaxxGrip
At Maxxis, the 3C tread is moulded from 3 different rubber compounds in one piece and is not subsequently assembled from two strips. Therefore, the treads can be shaped exactly according to the requirements of the respective tyre model, thus optimising the riding characteristics.
A new name for the well-known 3C Downhill compound that many of the best downhillers have trusted for years. 3C MaxxGrip offers the ultimate grip and cushioning for unparalleled Downhill traction.

Dual Ply Casing
Two fabric layers are combined and wrapped around the bead cores. The finished carcass then has four layers on the sidewalls and even 6 layers under the tread.

Tubeless Ready
Tubeless tyres have many advantages: you can ride with less air pressure. This gives better traction and reduces rolling resistance. And where there is no tube, the risk of punctures is reduced. Maxxis TR tyres are better prepared for mounting with sealant than other " tubeless ready" tyres. The bead of the Maxxis TR tyres is completely covered with a rubber layer like a real UST tubeless tyre. As a result, tubeless mounting is successful for all rims with standard dimensions even during the first inflation and with little liquid.

Wide Trail Casing (WT):
This design optimises the tread layout and tyre shape on today's modern wider rims. Traditional tyres are designed for narrower rims and become square on wider rims, resulting in a less than optimal performance. WT tyres are optimised for an inner rim width of 35 mm, but work excellently on all rims with an inner dimension of 30 - 40 mm. Concerns tyres with a width of 2.4" and above.
