This ORTLIEB Vario is a waterproof backpack with 20 litres of storage space that you can convert into a pannier with QL3.1 mounting system in no time at all. This makes the bag particularly suitable for daily commuting in city traffic. On one side are backpack straps, on the other are the hooks for attaching it to the bike. One flap covers the side not in use and can simply fold over to the other side and hooked onto it for easy conversion. It also has a small zip pocket that can be accessed from the outside in backpack mode. With the QL3.1 system, the main mounting elements remain on the bike so that the back of the bag is flat and hook-free. Another advantage: The top of the pannier rack remains free, e.g. for a basket. Inside the Vario, a separate compartment holds a notebook up to 15.4" and offers enough space for everyday necessities. The practical roll closure is secured with a hook. Reflectors on both (narrow) sides also increase your visibility in the dark. The backpack is particularly comfortable thanks to ergonomic shoulder straps and comfortable padding with ventilation channels. One thoughtful detail: the adjustment straps on the shoulder straps are looped in so that no loose ends can stick out.

Note from the Manufacturer:

To achieve the IP64 degree of protection (6 = dust-tight, 4 = splash-proof from all directions), the closure must be rolled up 3 to 4 times over.
Taking into account wear and tear, it is recommended to protect all contact points between the bag mount system and the pannier rack or a bicycle frame with paint protection sticker(s).
In addition, the permitted load of the pannier rack must be adhered to as well as the bag's maximum load capacity.

Quick-Lock3.1 Mount System
The Quick-Lock3.1 mount system is used in particular for office and urban bags and is characterised by the fact that a large part of the attachment elements are attached to the pannier rack. There are no hooks on the back of the bag, but flat attachment plates that are inconspicuous in everyday life and increase comfort while carrying. The bag is attached and removed in one easy step by simply lifting the handle to lock and unlock. The mounting set is adjustable in height and angle and the lower hook can also be rotated in 15-degree increments, so that it fits on a wide variety of racks and pedalling freedom is guaranteed. The mount system's rails also supports bags with QL1, QL2, QL2.1 and QL3 systems. Another advantage of the QL3.1 mount system: the support surface of the pannier rack remains free for items such as a bicycle basket.
