The right time: the Caliber 2 Chain Wear Indicator by Rohloff

Even if a derailleur chain is still fully functional, it no longer matches the sprockets exactly once it reaches a certain wear size. If the chain is not replaced with a new one, the sprocket and chainrings will wear down prematurely and also have to be replaced the next time the chain is exchanged. The Rohloff Caliber 2 makes it possible to quickly and reliably determine the right time to change the chain.
Only drive derailleur chains to the wear limit and thus reduce excessive wear on your valuable sprocket sets. Ride drivetrains with chain tensioners with a fully-functional chain to preserve the chainrings.

Features:

• wear values: 0.75 % (aluminium/titanium), 1 % mm (steel)

Use:

Simply place the Rohloff Caliber 2 with the recess on a roller and swing it onto the chain with the measuring nose. With a new chain, the measuring nose just fits with the tip between the rollers. The greater the wear, the deeper the measuring nose dips. If the measuring side A dips completely so that the gauge rests on the rollers over the entire measuring length, the chain is worn by 0.075 mm per joint. To protect aluminium or titanium sprockets from premature wear, the chain should now be replaced with a new one.
If the measuring side S dips completely, the chain is worn by 0.1 mm per joint. To protect steel sprockets from premature wear, the chain should now be replaced with a new one.
