Rohloff HG-Check Sprocket Wear Indicator
Perfect propulsion thanks to fresh sprockets: the HG-Check Sprocket Wear Indicator by Rohloff
A check with the Rohloff HG-Check informs you quickly and reliably about the wear condition of your Shimano Hyperglide sprockets. The test should be carried out before longer bike rides, but especially before road or MTB races, so that you are not suddenly unpleasantly surprised by a jumping chain.
With the Rohloff HG-Check, you can concentrate on your intensive bike tour or your race - the wear indicator will show you precisely what condition your Shimano sprockets are in.
Specifications:
- Function:
- sprocket wear indicator
- Compatibility:
- Shimano HG (Hyperglide) up to 12-speed
Features:
- tool for checking the condition of HG sprockets
- important before longer tours and races as well as before every chain swap
Use:
Place the HG-Check one after the other on the sprockets to be checked on the HG cassette block mounted on the rear wheel. For sprockets with 12 to 21 teeth, angle the last chain link outwards with the measuring roller and press it against the chain. Press the lever handle firmly (approx. 10 kg) with the other hand in the direction of travel and, with the measuring chain loaded, swing the measuring roller into the tooth gap. If the measuring roller swings completely into the tooth space without resistance, the tooth profile is still secure. Even when the chain is swapped out, the new chain runs perfectly. If the measuring chain hits the tooth head or can only be swivelled into the tooth space with pressure, the sprocket is worn and should be replaced. If the electrode immediately jumps out of the toothing when pressure is applied to the handle, the amount of sprocket wear is particularly high.
Sprockets with more than 21 teeth rarely wear in such a way that the chain run causes problems. An examination is therefore not absolutely necessary. Nevertheless, it can be checked here whether, when the electrode is fully inserted, it pops out when the lever is pressed. If the electrode remains in the gearing, the sprocket is OK. If it pops out, you can expect problems with very heavy chain loads.
