The SLX Rear Derailleur RD-M7000-11 by Shimano - Optimal function for 11-speed drivetrains

The Shimano SLX RD-M7000-11 rear derailleur with shorter GS cage has been designed for 2x11-speed derailleurs (11-42 cassette) and 1x11-speed drivetrains (11-46 cassette). It impresses with greatly reduced operating forces and a flat profile with optimised angle of attack for even more safety on the trail. Of course, the RD-M7000-11 also has the Shadow Plus stabiliser, which counteracts chain slap and chain drop. It thus occupies a central position in the Dyna-Sys11 system designed for precise, smooth gear changes. The cages of the rear derailleur are made of robust steel.

Technology:

Dyna-Sys11
Dyna-Sys11 is the name of the 11-speed shifting system for MTBs from Shimano. The focus lies on maintaining the pedalling rhythm both on flat ground and on uphill segments. The gear ratios are selected so that you make efficient progress in the most frequently used gear range and do not have to shift gears as much (" Rhythm Step" ).

Shadow RD+
Shadow Plus rear derailleurs are just as low-profile as Shimano's Shadow rear derailleurs. In addition, a stabilizer with on/off switch is used to reduce chain slap and thus counteract chain drop. At the same time, this results in a quieter drive. Weight is also saved compared to other chain restraint devices.

Good price/performance, works good, reliable shifting, robust (survives rock strikes without problems). Buy this if you don't need 12 gears :)
4 stars because sometimes you have to adjust/clean clutch.

I'm using this derailleur on my gravel bike instead of the more pricey GRX and, if you're into brisk riding over rutted terrain, I would absolutely recommend this (with a JTek shiftmate 8A).

The only not excellent thing is: if you're using a 42 teeth largest sprocket the shift out of this gear is somewhat laborious. Consider using a 40 instead.
This is not the case for a comparable, but more expensive, XT RD-M8000.

~~~
3500 km update: I solved the issue shifting out of the 42 teeth sprocket by servicing (abundantly greasing) the clutch and reducing the preload on it --it is possible to do so: you have to open the casing.
Still, behind the same JTek adapter and using the same R7000 STIs, this mech performs significantly less than the XT RD-M8000.
