The Shimano Saint SL-M820-B-I 10-speed shifter features the I-Spec (B) mounting system, which allows the integration of the shifter and brake lever on the handlebars. This saves space and weight and ensures a tidy appearance. The handle, which can be flexibly adjusted in its position, has been ergonomically optimised compared to its predecessor and equipped with a longer, anti-slip lever. It now has a 4x bearings, which provide for lower friction and thus less wear in tough Downhill and Freeride use. The defined index shifting function has of course remained.
The SL-M820-B-I also features 2-Way Release as the Rapidfire Plus shifter, which allows up to three gear steps to be shifted down at once, i.e. the shift cable can be released both by pulling with the index finger and with thumb pressure. In addition, there is Multi Release technology for the fastest possible gear changes in both directions (pull: one step, push: two steps) as well as Instant Release for immediate shifting. The Saint shifter consists of an aluminium housing with an aluminium-plastic and a steel lever.

Rapidfire Plus
Rapidfire Plus is a type of Shimano shift lever construction that has been common in the mountain bike sector since 1985. Two levers, the main lever and the release lever, are used instead of a twist shifter. Rapidfire Plus shift levers, as the name suggests, ensure fast shifting. In addition, depending on the model, it is possible to downshift up to three gears with one shift stroke.

2-Way-Release
With 2-Way-Release, the shifter can be pressed and pulled to shift to the smaller sprocket or chainring. This allows you to adjust the shifting process to your personal preferences. Most Rapidfire Plus shifters are equipped with 2-Way Release.

Instant Release
With Instant Release, the spring and thus the cable are released immediately when the lever is actuated, which ensures an enormously fast shifting process. The delay caused by a two-step shifting process with click and release is eliminated, so that the gear change is considerably accelerated and improved.

Multi Release
With the Multi Release, which only affects the right-hand shift lever, two gears can be shifted with one actuation of the release lever without loss of shifting speed. This is independent of whether you use a Top-Normal or a Low-Normal rear derailleur.

I-Spec
I-Spec enables the connection between the brake lever and shift lever on MTB derailleurs from Shimano. The main advantages are a cleaner look at the cockpit, more space on the handlebars and, of course, weight savings.

Note from the manufacturer:

Saint I-Spec shifters have a new mount (Version B) as of 2014. First of all, there is no compatibility with brake levers with the old I-Spec mount. However, they can be made compatible with the old I-Spec brake levers by means of a connecting bolt (included in the delivery), provided that the grip diameter on the handlebars is smaller than 32 mm. For handlebar grip diameters measuring from 32 to 36 mm, there is no possibility to combine the Saint I-Spec B shifter with older I-Spec brake levers.
