The Shimano XTR FC-M980 chainring is a Dyna-Sys chainring for use in a 10-speed MTB drivetrain. It works perfectly with the other components and fits seamlessly into the Shimano HyperDrive concept. SG-X technology ensures super-smooth shifting even under load.

The type designation (one or two characters) helps identify the compatibility of various chainrings with other chainrings. Because the larger chainrings have specially-formed teeth and upward shifting assistance, only particular smaller chainrings will match to ensure proper shifting performance.
