Technology:
FACTFACT is an acronym for " Functional Advanced Composite Technology" and summarises all the know-how that Specialized has in the use of carbon fibre. It is a holistic approach primarily concerning frames but is also found in many components like handlebars, stems, saddles, etc. The starting point is always the awareness of the riders' needs and the capability to fulfil them. Next, the selection of fibres, resins, and fabric layers takes place; in this process, the quality of the carbon and the arrangement of the fibre layers play an important role. The aim is to find the right setup for the given project and the intended location or area of use. It is often necessary to differentiate from model to model at several points. In the final step, attention is paid to processing the material in a way that allows the desired advantages in terms of low weight, rigidity, and stability to be achieved.
Rider-First Engineered
Rider-First Engineered describes the design approach used by Specialized to precisely match each frame size to the target group. In simpler terms, smaller frames for smaller riders are built differently than larger frames for larger riders. This is done based on performance parameters determined in practical tests, taking into account the forces acting on different areas of the bike when riders of different sizes ride it. Based on this analysis, the optimal tube dimensions and the appropriate carbon fibre layering for the respective frame size are determined. This way, you can be sure that no matter your height, you will receive a bike that delivers optimal and controllable performance suited to your size.
Aerodynamic Expertise from Specialized
" Aero is everything" is not an empty slogan at Specialized. Their engineers rely on decades of experience in aero design and use a variety of state-of-the-art methods in developing top aero racing machines. Central is, of course, the Wind Tunnel (" Win Tunnel" ) at the company's headquarters in California, which is available around the clock. It is specially designed to meet the requirements of cyclists and typical situations in road cycling, such as team time trials or riding in a group. The process always starts with a look into the so-called FreeFoil Shape Library, a collection of countless tube shapes and structures that helps identify the most interesting configurations for wind tunnel tests. But one does not always have to analyse actual objects. There's also Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), which uses computer simulations to experiment with aerodynamic properties. In addition, Specialized uses the Data Acquisition System (DAQ), which collects data in practical tests on the road or in the velodrome, such as the force, the speed, the rider's sitting position, and the wind incidence angle. In turn, conclusions can be drawn from all this information for use in bike fittings and fine-tuning.
